And there’s nothing better than curling up with the latest best selling novel, a travel guide for your next destination, or an old favourite. Books are also ideal for those long train or bus trips, and for the occasional rainy days that happen even in the best of seasons. Summary of Three English Language BookshopsHere’s an outline of three of the bookshops available in Budapest where second hand and new books are for sal. All the shops are close to the centre of town, or to public transport. TreeHugger Dan's BookshopAt Csengery u 48, 1067 Budapest, just off Andrássy ut and across the road from the infamous House of Terror, Treehugger Dan's isn't just a shop, it's a whole experience. A meeting point for the environmentally conscious in Budapest, Dan’s bookshop, as well as buying and selling second hand books, also sells Fair Trade tea, coffee and chocolate. It comes iced during the summer months and piping hot in winter. So as you browse the shelves you can also take a break and relax with a cuppa. There's a large range of fiction, in alphabetical order of author, with science fiction, fantasy and crime books in a separate sequence. There are also non-fiction books – cooking, travel, etc., and magazines, and some shelves of books in other languages. Dan also has a huge range of used travel guides from Lonely Planets, Rough Guides and Insight Guides, Frommers, etc. So it's the ideal place to pick up the relevant travel manul for your next destination. You can pay for your books with credit card at the main Csengery ut shop, but cash only at the branch shop in Lazar u 16 – just behind the opera house. Dan also buys books so you can cash in those that you have read in your journey to date. And if you’re in town for a while, and can't find your favourite book, Dan can put it on a search list and notify you when it comes in. Throughout the month, Dan also hosts song and poetry reading evenings, musical events, book launchings, wine tastings, and displays of Central European handicrafts. BestsellersEstablished since 1992, and one of the oldest English language bookshops in Budapest, Bestsellers, at 11 October 6 utca is a conventional modern bookshop selling only new books. As well as English language books in all fields, and a large range of magazines, there is also a large selection of titles in French available. All the latest best sellers are available, of course, as well as a selection of books, from coffee table to fit in your pocket, of material about Budapest and Hungary. Bestsellers will buy in books that you order, but as the books are new, and you pay for the transport charges as well as the book itself, expect rather high prices. Red Bus BookshopThis is one of the other most popular second hand bookshops in Budapest, close to Deák Tér at Semmelweiss u 14, District 5.There’s a large range of fiction, in alphabetical order of author, as well as plenty of shelves of non-fiction such as cooking, humour, biography, history, etc. One of its strengths is in its collection of classics – you could find anything from Jane Austen to Oscar Wilde on the shelves. They will occasionally purchase used books, depending on the authors and the condition of the books.
